Statistics from a recent USA Today Snapshots snapped us right out of a yawn: On average adults get 6.7 hours of sleep each night. A whopping 24 percents get eight or more hours on average.

Seriously? One out of four adults gets 8 or more hours? We’re lucky to get 5. So when The New York Times weighed in on the national sleep situation Saturday, pointing out an alarming list of side effects, we weren’t surprised to learn that sleep is a $3.9 billion industry.

Wonder if there are any Desperation recipes for sleep ... So how many hours a night are you getting?

I normally get 7 or 8 -- but only because my husband is an early-to-bed persona, and he counteracts my night-owl persona. I fight going to bed every night, but I must say, it feels good to be somewhat rested. I was amazed at the difference a little sleep can make.

I average 6 hours a night during the week. I have been trying to get between 7 and 8 hours but can't seem to get in bed at night. I definitely feel better when I can get the 7 hours instead of the 6 or 6-1/2 hours. It makes for a better day at work when I get plenty of sleep. Emotionally I can handle the stresses of the day with 7 or more hours of sleep at night.

I would love to get even 6hrs of uninterrupted sleep. I can't seem to get more than 5 and even that is unusual. It doesn't matter what time I go to bed, 5 seems to be the maximum I can sleep without interruption...either I just wake up on my own, or the dog wakes me. Getting up at 5AM doesn't help much either. Week-ends are no better. The best I can hope for is to wake up at my normal time and go back to sleep for an hour or so.
