Chocolate Custard with Chantilly Cream

Doesn’t everybody get excited about chocolate? We certainly do.

No matter what your summer entertaining needs are, our recipe for Chocolate Custard with Chantilly Cream will impress the guests. Plus, it doesn’t wear out the host.

All you have to do is melt some chocolate in with some cream, add eggs and sugar, bake, chill and voila! Amazing dessert.

The only remotely tricky part of the recipe is the fact that you bake the custard in a water bath. In gourmet circles this is called a bain marie, but all it amounts to is baking the custard cups inside a large pan filled partially with water. This is to ensure the custards cook very slowly and remain silky without danger of the eggs seizing up or curdling.

Try it out and let us know what you think!

What is Chantilly cream?

From Beverly Mills - May 30, 2010

Hi Pat, here's what Wikipedia has to say about Chantilly Cream: Chantilly cream or crème Chantilly is a sweetened whipped cream, sometimes vanilla-flavored. It is said to have been invented by François Vatel, maître d'hôtel at the Château de Chantilly in the 17th century. It is used in pastry both for its taste and as a decoration. Ice cream is also frequently served with Chantilly. Hope this helps!
