Southport, NC - Picture Perfect

It's easy to see why Southport has so many fans. The picturesque seaside begs you to sit and relax for a while.
The seagulls certainly seem to enjoy themselves. This is the city park where hundreds gather each July 4th for an amazing fireworks display.
Ok, I'll admit it. I have house envy. Who wouldn't?
This unasuming little seafood hut serves up some mighty fine freshly caught and prepared seafood. Just because they don't label the building with "amazing food," you won't want to miss this local treat.
The Provison shrimp and crabcake plate. A full pound of "peel and eat shrimp" with a fried crabcake and tomato and cuke salad. Holy moly -that's good!
Or if your tastes run to the more traditional, a fried crabcake sandwich and fries. Everything tastes better as the sea breezes blow through the open air picnic-style porch.
You can access Southport by road or ferry. The ferry is my favorite. I'm a sucker for the romanticism of it all. The above photo was taken on the Fort Fisher side of the ferry landing. Even with the moody skies it is simply beautiful.

Our Cookbooks rock!
What you're saying..
I bought Desperation dinners when my youngest was in preschool, she is now
a high school junior! I have used the book through the kid friendly
chicken and pasta phase and now into the vegetarian adventurous phase. I
do so appreciate having my (signed) copy of desperation dinners. A
suggestion- how about desperation vegetarian?
Best wishes to you both,
