Try using peanut butter flavored chips and adding 2 heaping TBS. crunchy peanut butter in place of the chocolate chips and optional nuts or coconut.  My mom gave me this recipe and we love how simple and delicious it is.

This sounds terrific Nancy! Thanks!

sounds so good….I wish it would stop snowing so I could get to the store to buy the baking chocolate.  Also, the PB idea from Nancy sounds delicious.

Where are you located and how much snow do you have? Hate to admit that I am in sunny Miami, but my daughter is in College Park, Maryland, and hasn’t had classes all week!

From Elizabeth - February 11, 2010

We’ve actually got the ingredients and I think I will try to get my 15 year old daughter to help me make this—she likes making Valentine candy for her friends.

I’m just around the Beltway from your daughter—in Alexandria,VA where we have over 30 inches total on the ground from these two storms.
BTW,my husband works for public works locally and used to have to go on “snow duty” during this sort of a storm. Whenever he did, I always sent him with a container of your “White Chicken Chili”. Luckily, he’s no longer called for storm duty, but I’ve made it anyway. My version is even quicker—made with cooked turkey breast I already had on hand!

You say semi-sweet baking chocolate. Would semi-sweet chips work as well?

From Jennifer - February 11, 2010

Ooh! How about white chips?

From Beverly Mills - February 11, 2010

I think semi-sweet chips would work. Dunno about white chips…anybody else know about these?!

From Karen - February 12, 2010

White chocolate ends up tasting sort of waxy/greasy. It isn’t very good in my opinion. the semisweet or milk chips work well though. Also for frugality there are copycat sweetened condensed milk recipes that are quite quick to make and taste just as good in recipes like this one. My ten year old son made these for his teachers.

I’ve never run across the homemade condensed milk. Is it hard to do? Which recipe do you like best? I’d love to try this.
