Cooking Notes

For testing we used Baker's brand chocolate but any brand of baking chocolate can be used.

Top of Stove Preparation: Heat chocolate and condensed milk in heavy 2-quart saucepan on very low heat, stirring constantly until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth. Remove from heat. Continue as directed in recipe.

One-Bowl Chocolate Fudge

2 packages (8 squares each) semi-sweet baking chocolate*
1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup chopped nuts or sweetened flaked coconut (toasted*), optional

Line an 8-inch square pan with foil. Set aside.

Microwave* chocolate and milk in a large microwaveable bowl on high 2 to 3 minutes or until chocolate is almost melted, stirring halfway through heating time. Stir until chocolate is completely melted.

Paula Dean has a recipe for homemade condensed milk. It's available on FoodNetwork and I think I've also seen it on RecipeZaar.com

I went to RecipeZaar.com & searched for Homemade Condensed Milk & all I found were recipes that listed condensed milk as an ingredient??

OK, here is the link to Paula Deen's recipe from the Food Network. (I have not personally tried it!) If the link is not "hot" when you click on it, cut and paste in your browser. Or go to Google and do a search for "Paula Deen's condensed milk recipe"! Hope this helps! (And I am going to try it once I get to the store to buy some powdered milk.) http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/sweetened-condensed-milk-recipe/index.html
